A cruise is a great way to see the islands. It allows you to get a taste of more then one. If its your first time on the islands, a cruise may be your best bet.

Our cruise was soooo very disappointing that I sent the following letter to the president of NCL America. As of yet 1/22/08--no response:

Dear Mr. Veitch;

The vacation of a lifetime!

This is what my sister and I expected in celebration of her retirement. We had both been on cruises with NCL international and found it delightful. Bermuda, on the Majestic, was especially wonderful. Unfortunately our cruise on the NCL America/Pride of Hawaii, was anything but that.

We had the penthouse suite--room 8630--which was absolutely beautiful. Our butler, Jargoslav, was great; but the service throughout the ship was terrible. In fact it crossed my mind that there was a little sabotage happening.

After eating at the Grand Pacific for breakfast and dinner on Tuesday, we vowed never to return. During breakfast, for no apparent reason--it was late in the A.M therefore not crowded--we waited a very long time to get our first cup of coffee, then another very long wait for our food. When it did arrive, I did not get the eggs Benedict as ordered. That evening, we went to the captains cocktail party and met the concierge, Jeremy, for the first time. We were disappointed in his communication skills. After the party we had dinner with two other couples. Most cruisers had finished eating so the dining room was sparse of people. Since it was not crowded, there was no apparent reason for the poor service. We waited an extreme length of time. The consensus of opinion at the table, was that the horribly poor service was intentional, forcing us to go to the restaurants with a cover charge. We waited such a length of time that we finished too late to go to the show at 9:30.

The hallway from our room to the elevator, had a sweeper’s cord that trailed the length of the hall--for three (3) days)--creating a hazard. Dirty dishes from room service were left on the floor all day long--there when we left in the morning, the same ones, when we returned at night.

The following morning, we asked that the concierge to obtain reservations at the Japanese steak house, for 7:00 PM the same night. We received a message from the assistant concierge, confirming our reservations at seven, the same evening. When we arrived at the restaurant, we had no such thing. The maitre d checked throughout the week--we had no reservations during the entire cruise. We requested that she call Jeremy. When Jeremy and his assistant arrived, they said WE had the wrong night and that our reservations were for the following night. We explained that the maitre d had told us that we had no reservations, at anytime, during the entire cruise. I had to repeat this three times. Jeremy then took us to the Cagney steak house and made reservations for Friday at Tepanyaki.

The poor service continued--dirty dishes remaining on our hall floor and on the tables in the buffet. It seemed to get a little better by Friday.

We ate at the Le Bistro, Cagney’s Steak House, Tapanyaki--all had excellent food--the type of excellence that has no additional charge on your international cruise.

After eating our dinner, Sunday evening, at Paniola’s, my sister submitted her room key to pay for two (2) margaritas. In return, she received another man’s room key--he had left with ours. The waiter was very apologetic and brought his manager to our table. After a discussion, that another person could possibly use our key to charge something, along with another fifteen minute wait; the manager, again not eager to help us with something that was their fault; said that we would have to go to the reservations desk and cancel our keys. My sister, Ruth, said that we did not want to wait in line. The manager left and returned to say that there were only about ten people inline. Is this VIP treatment? I doubt it. She finally went with Ruth down one (1) flight of stairs and canceled our key.

I will never cruise with NCL America again. As wonderful as your international cruises are, there is something drastically wrong with your American division. By the way, I am an American citizen. I am deeply sadden by this experience.

I hope that you realize that I expect like to hear from you--perhaps to compensate my sister and me for this terribly bad experience.

Sincerely,
Nancy L
